Orioles Need to Add Pieces for a Deep Playoff Run: 3 Possible Trade Candidates

The Baltimore Orioles have been on a roll this season, currently sitting at the top of the American League East division. With a strong lineup and solid pitching rotation, the Orioles have their sights set on making a deep playoff run. However, in order to do so, they may need to add some key pieces to their roster before the MLB trade deadline.

As the deadline approaches, teams across the league are looking to make moves to improve their chances of making a postseason push. The Orioles are no exception, and they have already been linked to several potential trade candidates. Let’s take a look at three players who could help the Orioles in their quest for a deep playoff run.

1. Manny Machado, San Diego Padres

It’s no secret that the Orioles have been struggling at the third base position this season. While Rio Ruiz and Maikel Franco have both had their moments, neither has been able to consistently produce at the plate. This is where Manny Machado comes in.

Machado, who spent the first six and a half seasons of his career with the Orioles, is currently playing for the San Diego Padres. While he has struggled with injuries this season, he is still one of the best third basemen in the league when healthy. In 59 games, he has a batting average of .278 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs.

Bringing Machado back to Baltimore would not only provide a much-needed upgrade at third base, but it would also give the team a boost of energy and morale. Machado is a fan favorite and a proven winner, having won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2018. His experience and leadership could be just what the Orioles need to make a deep playoff run.

2. José Berríos, Minnesota Twins

The Orioles’ starting rotation has been solid this season, but adding another top-tier pitcher could make all the difference in the playoffs. This is where José Berríos comes in.

Berríos, who is currently playing for the Minnesota Twins, has been one of the best pitchers in the American League this season. In 18 starts, he has a 7-2 record with a 3.52 ERA and 118 strikeouts. He has also been selected to the All-Star Game for the second time in his career.

Adding Berríos to the rotation would give the Orioles a formidable trio of starters, alongside John Means and Matt Harvey. His ability to go deep into games and strike out batters could be crucial in a playoff series. Plus, at just 27 years old, Berríos still has plenty of room to grow and could be a valuable asset for the Orioles for years to come.

3. Craig Kimbrel, Chicago Cubs

The Orioles’ bullpen has been a strength this season, but adding another dominant closer could solidify their late-game success. Enter Craig Kimbrel.

Kimbrel, who is currently playing for the Chicago Cubs, has been one of the best closers in the league this season. In 35 appearances, he has a 0.49 ERA with 23 saves and 57 strikeouts. He has also been selected to the All-Star Game for the eighth time in his career.

Adding Kimbrel to the back end of the Orioles’ bullpen would give them a shutdown closer who can lock down games in the late innings. With his experience and track record of success, he could be a valuable addition to the team as they make a push for the playoffs.

In conclusion, the Baltimore Orioles have a strong team, but in order to make a deep playoff run, they may need to add some key pieces before the trade deadline. Manny Machado, José Berríos, and Craig Kimbrel are just three of the many potential trade candidates that could help the Orioles achieve their goal. With the right moves, the Orioles could be a force to be reckoned with in the postseason. Let’s go O’s!
