ICE Deportation Airline Avelo Relies on Blue-State Subsidies. Will Dem Governors Do Anything About It?

In recent years, the topic of immigration and deportation has become increasingly contentious in the United States. Many activists and organizations have been fighting against the inhumane treatment of immigrants and the unjust deportation policies of the government. However, a recent revelation has shed light on a disturbing connection between the state and the deportation machine – the airline Avelo.

Avelo, a small airline that operates out of Burbank, California, has been responsible for 10 percent of the deportation flights for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This came as a surprise to many, as Avelo had positioned itself as a budget-friendly option for leisure travelers. But behind the scenes, the airline was making a significant profit from carrying out ICE’s deportation orders.

This revelation has sparked outrage among activists and immigrant rights organizations. They have been calling for action to be taken against the airline and its partnership with ICE. One strategy they have focused on is cutting off the subsidies that Avelo receives from blue states, which are known for having progressive immigration policies.

Blue states, typically controlled by Democratic governors, have been praised for their efforts in protecting immigrants and creating a more welcoming environment for them. However, the fact that these states are indirectly supporting Avelo’s inhumane actions has raised concerns and questions about the integrity of their values.

Through these subsidies, Avelo receives significant financial support from these states, making it easier for the airline to continue its collaboration with ICE. This has been a major source of income for the airline, and without it, Avelo would struggle to stay afloat.

Many are now questioning whether these states will take a stand against Avelo and withdraw their support. Will they continue to turn a blind eye to the exploitation of immigrants by a company operating within their borders? Or will they finally take action and put an end to this partnership?

The answer to these questions is crucial, not only for the sake of immigrants but also for the integrity of these blue states. It is time for Democratic governors to walk the talk and show that they are truly committed to protecting the rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status.

One state that has already taken action is New York. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the state would be withdrawing its $1.5 million subsidy from Avelo. This was a significant step towards cutting off the airline’s ties to ICE and sending a strong message that New York stands with immigrants.

Other states, such as California, have yet to make a move. Despite being known for its progressive stance on immigration, California continues to provide Avelo with $1.5 million in subsidies. This is a clear contradiction to their values, and it is time for Governor Gavin Newsom to take action and follow in the footsteps of New York.

Furthermore, it is crucial for these states to not only withdraw their subsidies but also to actively urge other blue states to do the same. By standing together and showing a united front against Avelo’s collaboration with ICE, these states can have a significant impact on the airline’s operations and their involvement in the deportation machine.

Moreover, it is the responsibility of these states to support and promote ethical and humane businesses. By continuing to provide subsidies to Avelo, they are condoning and promoting the mistreatment of immigrants, directly contradicting their values and beliefs.

The ball is now in the court of Democratic governors. Will they continue to support an airline that profits from the suffering of immigrants, or will they take a stand and show their commitment to protecting the rights of all individuals? The answer to this question will not only shape the future of Avelo but also determine the integrity and values of these blue states.

It is time for action. It is time to stop Avelo from relying on blue-state subsidies and to put an end to their involvement in ICE’s deportation machine. Let us stand together and demand that our leaders take a stand against injustice and promote a more just and humane society for all.
