Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 First Impressions

Xiaomi, the renowned Chinese smartphone brand, has finally launched its much-awaited successor to the Redmi Pad tablet after a long wait of nearly three years. The original Redmi Pad, released in 2016, was well-received by consumers for its compact size and affordable price point. However, with the continuous advancements in technology, the ageing Redmi Pad was in dire need of an upgrade. And now, Xiaomi has delivered with the newly launched Redmi Pad 2 tablet.

The Redmi Pad has always been marketed as a device for media consumption and light gaming, rather than a productivity tool. Its small screen size of 7.9 inches makes it more convenient to hold and use for extended periods, making it a popular choice for watching videos, browsing the internet, and playing casual games on the go. And the Redmi Pad 2 continues to follow this same direction, but with some significant upgrades and a refreshed design.

One of the most notable changes in the Redmi Pad 2 is the upgraded 8-inch Full HD+ display. The increase in display size and resolution provides a better viewing experience, making images and videos appear more vibrant and detailed. The bezels have also been reduced, giving the tablet a more modern and sleek look. Additionally, the new Redmi Pad 2 also comes with a 16:10 aspect ratio, making it ideal for watching widescreen content without any black bars.

Under the hood, the Redmi Pad 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, a significant upgrade from the previous model’s Snapdragon 430. This new processor ensures smooth and lag-free performance, making multitasking and gaming a breeze. Furthermore, the Redmi Pad 2 comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card, providing ample space for storing media and files.

In terms of design, the Redmi Pad 2 has undergone a significant transformation. The tablet now has a metal unibody design, giving it a premium feel and making it more durable. The back panel has a matte finish, which not only adds to the aesthetics but also improves grip and reduces fingerprints. The tablet is available in two color options – black and gold, both of which exude elegance and sophistication.

Another notable improvement in the Redmi Pad 2 is the battery life. With a 6000mAh battery, the tablet can easily last for a full day of heavy usage, and in standby mode, it can last for several days. This is a significant upgrade from the 4800mAh battery in the previous model, providing users with more flexibility and convenience.

The Redmi Pad 2 also boasts an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera, enabling users to capture decent photos and videos. While it may not be the primary feature of a tablet, it is a welcomed addition for those who like to take quick snaps or make video calls on their devices.

As for software, the Redmi Pad 2 runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo, providing a smooth and customizable user experience. MIUI 9 also comes with a split-screen feature, allowing users to multitask effortlessly by running two apps simultaneously.

The Redmi Pad 2 also supports cellular connectivity, which was lacking in the previous model. This makes the tablet more versatile, allowing users to stay connected and productive even when they are away from Wi-Fi networks.

In conclusion, the Redmi Pad 2 is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, with a perfect balance of design, features, and affordability. It may not be a productivity device, but it excels in its intended purpose of serving as a device for media consumption and light gaming. With its upgraded display, processor, battery life, and design, the Redmi Pad 2 is sure to impress consumers and solidify Xiaomi’s position in the tablet market. So, if you are in the market for a compact and budget-friendly tablet, the Redmi Pad 2 is definitely worth considering.
