Lewis Hamilton: The Driving Force in Fashion
There’s no denying that Lewis Hamilton is a force to be reckoned with on the race track. The Formula 1 driver has dominated the sport for years, racking up numerous championship titles and breaking records along the way. But there’s another area where Hamilton is making waves and that’s in the world of fashion.
With his love for bright, bold, and eccentric outfits, Hamilton has become almost as famous for his style as he is for his driving skills. And with a number of races under his belt this season, he has consistently been spotted in the paddock wearing an array of looks that put him in first place in the fashion stakes. In fact, his fashion choices have become so popular that there are now dedicated fashion pages, such as F1 Paddock Fits, solely focused on driver style.
At 40 years old, Hamilton has a keen eye for fashion and regularly discusses his personal style. He is known for mixing emerging, diverse designers with pieces from larger fashion houses, creating a unique and eye-catching look. In an interview with Vogue, Hamilton said, “Fashion is about freeing yourself – it’s about self-expression; it’s about you; it’s about slowly, over time, evolving and learning more about yourself and what you like and how you want to show up – how you want to be seen. What makes you feel great? It’s a great feeling when you put on a piece of clothing and throw your shoulders back and are just like: I feel great today. That’s what fashion does.”
But Hamilton’s fashion influence goes beyond just his personal style. He works closely with stylist Eric Mcneal and is also conscious of the environmental impact of fashion. He is constantly striving to promote more diversity, both within motorsport and the fashion industry. In fact, he was recently announced as a cohost for the Met Gala in May 2025, a fitting choice for the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which celebrates the history and enduring impact of Black dandyism.
Hamilton’s commitment to diversity and inclusion was also evident at the 2021 Met Gala, where he used his platform to invite three emerging Black designers to his table – Theophilio, Kenneth Nicholson, and Jason Rembert of Aliétte. This move not only showcased his support for up-and-coming designers, but also highlighted the need for more representation in the fashion industry.
But Hamilton’s influence in the fashion world doesn’t stop there. He was recently chosen as the star of Valentino’s Fall 2022 campaign, alongside actress Zendaya. The campaign, which featured Hamilton modeling Pierpaolo Piccioli’s pink designs, was a testament to his influence beyond the race track.
As Hamilton continues to make his bid for another championship this year, he is also making a statement with his fashion choices. He has turned the paddock into a runway, showcasing his love for fashion and his ability to push boundaries. So, while he may be known as a driving force in the world of motorsport, it’s clear that Lewis Hamilton is also a driving force in the world of fashion.
