Trump and Biden Financed Duterte’s Crimes. They Too Should Pay for It.

Trump and Biden Financed Duterte’s Crimes. They Too Should Pay for It.

The world was shocked by the shocking revelation that both former U.S. President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden were complicit in the bloody and state-sanctioned killing campaign of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. This brutal campaign has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, many of whom were targeted and killed without due process.

It is beyond doubt that the Duterte administration’s actions are a gross violation of human rights, and all those involved must be held accountable. However, it is not only Duterte and his officials who should face justice for their crimes. The international community must also hold accountable those who financed and were complicit in this horrific bloodshed.

The recent report by The Intercept, titled “Trump and Biden Financed Duterte’s Crimes. They Too Should Pay for It,” sheds light on the role of the U.S. in enabling Duterte’s brutal campaign. The report reveals that both Trump and Biden’s administrations actively provided financial aid and support to Duterte’s administration, even as they were aware of the human rights violations being committed.

This revelation is not only shocking but also deeply disturbing. The U.S. has always been a vocal advocate for human rights and democracy, yet, in this case, they chose to turn a blind eye to the atrocities being committed in the Philippines. By providing financial and political support, they essentially became complicit in Duterte’s crimes.

But it’s not just the U.S. that should be held accountable. Other countries, including China and Australia, have also been identified as providing aid and support to the Duterte administration. With their own vested interests in the Philippines, these countries were well aware of the human rights abuses being committed but chose to remain silent.

It is high time for the international community to come together and demand justice for the victims of Duterte’s brutal campaign. The U.S., in particular, must take responsibility for their role in enabling this violence. It is unacceptable that the U.S. government continues to provide military aid to the Philippines while knowing that it could potentially contribute to more human rights violations.

The current Biden administration must acknowledge its predecessor’s actions and take concrete steps to rectify the situation. They must also ensure that any future aid provided to the Philippines comes with conditions that prioritize human rights and the rule of law.

In addition, the U.S. must also work towards holding Duterte and his officials accountable for their crimes. The U.S. is a global superpower, and it has a moral responsibility to stand up for human rights and democracy, even if it means holding its allies accountable.

The international community must also come together to pressure other countries, such as China and Australia, to stop their support for Duterte’s administration. By continuing to provide aid and support, these countries are complicit in the suffering of the Filipino people.

Furthermore, the United Nations must launch an investigation into the human rights situation in the Philippines and hold those responsible for the atrocities accountable. The UN is the global body responsible for upholding human rights, and it must take a stand against the ongoing violations in the Philippines.

It is also essential to support and amplify the voices of human rights defenders and civil society organizations in the Philippines who have been tirelessly working to expose and bring an end to the violence. These brave individuals have faced harassment, threats, and even death for speaking out against the Duterte administration’s actions. The international community must stand in solidarity with them and provide them with the support and protection they need to continue their crucial work.

In conclusion, it is time for the international community to take action and hold accountable those who financed and were complicit in Duterte’s bloody, state-sanctioned killing campaign. The U.S., in particular, must take responsibility for its role in enabling this violence and work towards rectifying the situation. The victims of Duterte’s brutal campaign deserve justice, and it is the responsibility of the international community to ensure that it is served.
